Implementing an Automated System for Acquiring Patient Photographs Simultaneously with Radiographs in a Clinical PACS Environment
نویسنده
چکیده
The addition of patient photographs to radiology studies has a number of possible benefits including reducing wrong-patient errors [1, 2], providing context to the radiologist for interpretation, and reconnecting the radiologist with the patient. By providing the radiologist with photographs corresponding to radiology studies, wrong-patient errors can be identified readily when comparative studies are available because the photographs would not match. For radiographic studies without comparison, wrong-patient errors can still be identified if photographs are matched with photographs in the electronic medical record. Patient photographs can also provide radiologists with context for interpretation helping them determine, for example, the orientation of lines and tubes that may not be readily apparent from the radiograph alone. Lastly, the addition of patient photographs has been shown to promote empathy and potentially result in a more accurate reading [3]. Even with these benefits it is important that the addition of photos does not interfere with standard reading quality. The work of Krupinski, et al. [4] has suggested that the addition of photographs does not increase the overall viewing time and that photographs may aid certain types of image interpretation.

Impending Discectomy in a Patient with Zoster Induced Sciatica An Instructive Case Report
Herpes zoster is a rare cause of non-discogenic sciatica. A combination of case rarity and name similarity was nearly leading to an inopportune surgery in a 21 years old woman. The clinical presentation was completely similar to a cauda equina syndrome associated with urinary incontinence and bilateral leg involvement. Concurrently, lumbosacral imaging of another patient with exactly simila...

Dear Editor, Dengue is an important arbovirus infection. This infection can result in an acute febrile illness. The important hematological abnormalities included hemoconcentration and thrombocytopenia (1). Due to the decreased platelet count, the patient might develop petechiae and hemorrhagic complication. In endemic area, the presumptive diagnosis of dengue is usually derived by the cl...
متن کاملSoft Systems Methodology for Implementing Clinical Practice Guidelines in A General Hospital: A study protocol
Background: It is notoriously challenging to implement evidence-based care and to update and improve health care policy. Adhering to evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) serves as the driving force behind making decisions based on the best evidence and making efforts for improving the quality of patient care and outcomes. Despite requiring Iranian hospitals to implement CPGs in Ja...

This paper presents a new mathematical model for a production system through a scheduling problem considering a material handling system as an intelligent transportation system by automated guided vehicles (AGVs). The traditional systems cannot respond to the changes and customer’s demands and for this reason, a flexible production system is used. Therefore, for this purpose, automated transpor...

Objective(s): Gallium‐68 (Ga‐68) is an ideal research and hospital‐based PET radioisotope. Currently, the main form of Ga‐68 radiopharmaceutical that is being synthesised in‐house is Ga‐68 conjugated with DOTA based derivatives. The development of automated synthesis systems has increased the reliability, reproducibility and safety of radiopharmaceutical productions. Here we report on our three...
